3D ART: Week 14 - Diorama

This week we began creating a mini environment for our cannons to sit on. I decided to go for a dilapidated stone building situation like this:

I modeled my pieces in Maya and laid them out how I'd like the final product to look before taking them into ZBrush.

Here are BPR renders of what I have so far. I'd like to revisit the foliage and get a more interesting shape before throwing this into Substance because it be lookin' r o u g h. Also touch up those planks and the tangent one of them is running along the edge. Lots ta do!

Checking in

Goals:

!!!! GET A JOB !!!!

Small part of me wouldn't mind working in film but goal is games.

Want to pursue character art. It's tough so get into doing props to get foot into door. Put strong emphasis on props that are character related since as a character artist I'll be expected to model those anyway.

Extra Studies:

  • Go on ArtStation, make a specific top ten artists collection that identifies the best of what I want to do.
  • Reach out to these artists to start a network and get advice.
  • Anatomy studies in 2D/3D. DL PureRef anatomy board.
  • Look into Scott Eaton workshops.
  • Do sculptural cast studies. Eye, nose, mouth, ear. Work your way up to arm, leg, torso. Then the Full Thing.
  • Check out David Finch anatomical studies on Youtube. Hair, clothes, anatomy.
  • Sculpt on a daily basis, even if it's just 30 min.

3D ART: Assignment 11 - Cannon ZBrush Sculpt

This week we took our cannons into ZBrush and prettied them up even more. This was pretty fun, I felt a little more confident using the tools this time around and got to fiddle around with alphas albeit with questionable success. I definitely need to pay closer attention to reference and be more thoughtful about where to place wear and tear instead of getting carried away with fun brushes but I'm pleased with how this came out. It's a big improvement from Elsa, I think!

Every time I use this program I feel more and more excited to work with it more and learn all the things. Oh, and I finally made a shiny template to look all professional and stuff. Who the heck am I?

Also I had so much fun sculpting this baby face. I can't wait to start sculpting characters!

3D ART: Assignment 10 - High Res Cannon

This week we had to create a high res version of our cannon and plop it into Zbrush.
