Squidface Project Week 4

And done! Tried to stick close to the reference and I think I did a pretty OK job. I really enjoyed this project, I can't wait for summer semester so I can try my hand at more character work!

Update: Nick gave us a little extra time to finish these up so I revisited the texture to give it some p o r e s, pimples, and fixed up the roughness a bit. I also messed with the final lighting set up after getting some valuable feedback from Nick.

Squidface Project Week 3

Did my retopo, UVs and first bake this week! I have a few issues with these really faceted shadows showing up on the mesh surface that I need to pick Nick's brain on but so far... so good?! This is the first time I'm not actually horrifically behind on the game res/UV week so I'm pretty happy! To any future FIEAns reading this and stressing: hang in there! Things start making sense eventually. 😄

VR Project: Corpse Bride - Turn in #3

The grind continues! My team's been doing an amazing job and making huge strides in progress. For this turn in I was in charge of collecting sound effects for the bar, the opening scene, and transition effects. I managed to find sounds for all of them and reached out to a creator on YouTube to get their permission on a lovely ambient piece that would be perfect for our project.

Aside from that I created proxies for both the floor and roof boards and placed them in the scene.

Squidface Project Week 1

CHARACTER TIME! Nick gave us a selection of characters to choose from and interpret in 3D, I picked Squidface. I started by doodling a side view of him to guide my sculpt and then went to work. I got my base shapes out and will continue sculpting the rest of him in over the next week.

VR Project: Corpse Bride - Turn in #2

So since the last update I've pushed the model along a little further and got more definition in her limbs and chest. We've left the legs alone for now since she's going to be sitting and they will be covered by her dress. I also did revisions to help Franco and Abi fit her with a rig that matches the UE4 mannequin. Aside from that I also worked on a few proxy models to fill in the scene.

Personal Project START

So we're endeavoring to do a personal side project alongside the 6986658 other projects we're doing here at FIEA! I wanna be a character artist so I looked around for some neat character designs for me to build off of. Thus far I haven't had the opportunity to sculpt a traditional character head with a mouth sack and eyeballs and all that good stuff so this is something I'd really like to do.

by @dune5and on twitter.

Official Darkstalkers art.

I was between the design on the top pic left and Lilith from Darkstalkers. At first I decided on the cool hat dude because getting fabrics experience is essential (and also the challenge of improvising the rest of the outfit) but I'm afraid it might me too much for me to juggle at the moment without getting burned out. I'll save him for a summer project and move forward with Lilith for now due to her more simplistic design and focus on musculature.

I want to do a really appealing model in the soft Overwatchy PBR style and give her a basic rig to put her in cute poses. I've loved this character design since infancy so I'm excited to get cracking on it!

Nerf Project Week 3145

We're at the end of Nerf Hell at last! This was easily the toughest project for me so far but I learned lots so...worth it? Yeah. Worth it. Probably. Still need to go back soon to fix some baking issues before industry review though! I cry.

Final tri count for this girl was 12,760K. I'm sure I can reduce this drastically but hey, it's under the assigned limit so YEET.

Demon Axe and Jelly Witch Complete, RIP Cyclops

I finished this all up a week ago and got really nice feedback during my last industry review so.. here ya go! - You can look at more progre...
