VR Project: Corpse Bride - Turn in #5

Oops forgot the turn-in for this! Literally the only thing left for me to do that was still kinda-sorta proxy stage was giving all the bottles in the scene an inside to make them look a little nicer. I also separated out the bouquet and vase at Lori's request so we could have an empty vase, loose bouquet, and a vase with the bouquet inside. Another very small update but our team has been crushing it all semester so there's pretty much nothing left to do except up-res from here. Can't wait to see this continue getting better and better in the summer! :)

Star-crossed vase and bouquet. Very exciting update.

Island Project Week 2 Hi-Res

This week I focused on up-resing and sculpting on my pieces. I didn't want to go too hard on it since these are supposed to look more stylized so I just focused on applying trim to edges along with some pock marks and cracks to liven things up a bit. Not a super exciting update, but I'm hoping to have these textured next week.

Island Project Week 1: Proxy

So our entire class is working together to make director Nick's vision come true! I'm on the island team and tasked with creating the palm trees and foliage to liven our sand piles with. I finished with 4 palm tree variations, a grass pile, and a fern.

All I have to say about this process is that the curve tool is your friend! All of the trunks are basically extruded curves except for the layered one, which was made out of a single trunk segment that was duplicated along the curve using the MASH curve functionality in Maya. I've never used MASH until I watched someone do this in a tutorial and my mind was blown. It's a pretty neat little tool. Oh, I also used the bend deformer to give the fronds and grass some shape.

My plan: I'm going to be taking those chunky fronds into Zbrush, baking them onto planes, and then cleaning the planes up in Substance with opacity. I'm also going to be sculpting on the more layered trunk off to the right and baking it onto the smoother one to get some fun normals on the final product while still keeping it low res. (Edit: Nick liked the silhouette so I'll be just using the chunky trunk as my base. It's actually under 5k tris so it's very inexpensive.) The foliage will just be pure Substance, babey.

VR Project: Corpse Bride - Turn in #4

For this turn in I was assigned a final proxy to work on as our team finally wraps up all the models we have on our asset list. I took on a flower vase to adorn the scene with. I got carried away so the roses came out pretty high poly but they can be used to Emily's bouquet as well when we're ready to begin up-resing our assets.

Here it is in Maya and in the scene itself.
